Cut Your Cubes Scavenger Hunt—November 10

Yes!! The CoolCalifornia Challenge will continue until March 2013 so keep inputting your SMUD and PGE numbers and your odometer readings. Your participation is important. Besides the weekly prizes and information you see in this newsletter, you have helped Sacramento win over $13,000 so far. This money will be spent wisely to assist Sac residents in cutting their cubes (reducing carbon emissions).

Tom won the L-Prize LED bulb, which earned the US Department of Energy “L-Prize” for energy efficiency. Valued at $50, this bulb uses only 10 watts, but has the brightness output of a 60-watt incandescent. It’s dimmable, produces soft white light, and is rated to last 27.4 years. Remember: the more points you have, the better your chances of winning the raffle.

Tip of the Week: Cut Your Holiday Travel Emissions

With the holidays coming up you may be planning to visit friends and family. Consider alternatives to flying—like train, bus, or car—whenever possible. If you are going by car, do your best to avoid taking multiple cars, the more people in a car the less carbon per person. If you have more than one car to choose from, use the most fuel efficient one. With high gas costs, this will also help your pocketbook.
