May Is Bike Month (MIBM)!! Make a pledge, join a team.

May is the month to set your car aside and see how much you can accomplish by bike. You may find it becomes a habit that continues throughout the rest of the year.

It's a simple process. Go to MayIsBikeMonth.com and register, then navigate to "challenges" and choose a team (you can have a work team and a personal team). Pledge the number of miles you want to ride in May (some people pledge low--5 or 6 miles--and reach their goals easily, others challenge themselves to go beyond their normal monthly biking totals; whatever you want to do is fine.

Group rides and prizes, badges and team spirit all combine to make you want to go that extra mile. Check the calendar at MayIsBikeMonth.com to find fun events.

Tip of the Week: Leave the Car at Home for Short Errands

Half of all car trips are less than 3 miles away. If you walk or ride to those nearby errands, you will save money, be healthier, and slow down to smell the roses. Many people find they can cut one car from their household fleet, a savings of about $5000/year.

Did You Know?

Safe Routes To School is a national movement focused on creating safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from school. This can reverse the nationwide trend toward childhood obesity and inactivity, as well as cut down on the carbon generated by parents driving their children to schools. In Sacramento, go to WalkSacramento.org for more information.
