Are You Going to Eat That?

Americans throw away 1/3 of the food we buy - more than 34 million tons a year. When you send food waste to landfill, “it quickly rots and becomes a significant source of methane - a potent greenhouse gas with 21 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide” (EPA). Why not compost instead? It’s good for the planet and it’ll give you nutritious soil for your garden, too!

Learn more about composting.

Calories = Carbon

The average American eats about 2800 calories per day – 25% more than the recommended 2000 calories. Since food production generates greenhouse gases, eating fewer calories can help you be healthy and reduce your carbon footprint! Can you guess which type of food produces the most greenhouse gases? Click on the pie chart to find out.

Cool Down with Water

Don't be shy to tap into the tap; it's perfectly safe to drink! The City of Tracy is committed to having a safe, reliable and affordable drinking water supply to meet the current and future needs of our community. Have you noticed the taste has gotten better over the last few years? Here's why: Most residential water softeners were installed as a result of the Tracy's reliance on groundwater supply. Then in 2005, the City began receiving Stanislaus River Water through the South County Water Supply Project. The reliance on groundwater lessened and overall water quality increased. The hardness of the City's water supply has decreased over that past 7 years, improving the taste of our tap water and reducing the need for water softeners. Now you know, so stop buying those bottled waters and start filling up your own reusable bottle!

This month, we will be raffling away 5 reusable water bottles. The more points you have, the higher your chances are of winning!
