Does Everybody Know What Time It Is?!

It’s not Tool Time...it’s Home Improvement month! This August, we concentrate on repairing our homes to save energy. Whether it’s a crack in the wall or a leaky faucet, Cool Californians know that a small investment can help us save a lot of money and reduce our carbon footprints.

The Challenge is up to 1,550 registered households across participating cities, and you’re all doing an awesome job of uploading your energy bills and vehicle miles traveled! Stay cool and keep up the good work!

Congratulations, Sophia!

Sophia won this week’s raffle prize, an LED bulb that recently won the US Department of Energy “L-Prize” for energy efficiency. Valued at $50, this bulb uses only 10 watts, but has the brightness output of a 60-watt incandescent. It’s dimmable, produces soft white light, and is rated to last 27.4 years. Don’t forget: the more points you have, the better your chances of winning the raffle.

Sacramento Area Climate Heroes

Nate and Christy Dunn knew that they could reduce their household carbon footprint by reducing their energy consumption. So, they took advantage of a SMUD incentives program and upgraded their Sacramento-area home. They have increased their home’s energy efficiency by a whopping 56%, and transformed the living experience in their home.

How Do You Rank?

Go to your profile page to see how you rank out of all participants in Sacramento. Then log your energy bills and mileage to see if you go up (remember you can retroactively add bills back to March). In addition, show the world how you’re doing by logging in and changing your privacy settings to “Everyone,” which makes your username, first name, picture, and points public. Encourage your friends to join and compete with you.

Tie in July! - Two Cities Declared COOL

Congratulations to Tracy and Chula Vista for becoming the newest Cool California Cities! The race was neck and neck, the points close, and the photo finish declared a tie. During Phase II, which runs through March, all four winning cities will compete for the title of “Coolest California City.”

Sacramento is in 4th place

After winning the qualifying round in June, we took a bit of a breather while Tracy and Chula Vista battled it out for the July title. Now, as one of the finalist cities, we’re hot and ready to get back on top. Now it’s time to submit your SMUD and PG&E energy numbers for this month (and add in the bills back to March if you haven’t already) and also your odometer readings.
